SPEEDWAY CRASHES

HECTIC TEST MATCH. LONDON, .lune 20. A ciowd of 50,000 people saw an amazing series of accidents during the first Speedway Test Match between England and Australia at Wembley last night. England won by 76 points to 47. It was the most hectic struggle the Speedway' has ever,seen. All sorts of risks were taken by both teams, and in the second race Grosskreutz (Australia) crashed. Rye (England), who was hard on his heels, charged into him. and both were taken from the track. Rye with a broken leg -and Grosskreutz with a bone broken in his wrist. In the race before the interval Farnden (England), making a. wild attempt to get the lead, hit an opponent’s back wheel. He was hurled high into the air and crashed to earth 20 yards away with a thud that was heard all over the Stadium. He was carried off'unconscious, and was found to be suffering from severe concussion. Another Englishman, Phillips, ran into the safety fence and severely injured his shoulder. In spite of these setbacks the English reserves, Jackson and Parker, rose to the occasian brilliantly and helped to win the match.
