BARRYTOWN NOTES

[OUB OWN COBRESPONDENT.] The monster Hospital Ball held on Saturday night was one of the most successful functions ever held in the district. The dancing space was lined to its utmost capacity, there beingvisitors present from Greymouth, Westport, Hokitika, Paroa, Runanga. Tiromoana, Ikamatua and The committee deserve praise tor tne capable manner in which they catered for the huge crowd. The decorative scheme transformed the hall into a dancer’s paradise—the green nikaii palms forming an ideal back ground tor the paper flowers, while the multicoloured streamers arranged m thfashion of an umbrella showed to advantage under the electric lights incased in Chinese lanterns.. The music supplied by the Happiness Boys was all to be desired, for both the modern and old-time dances, and the floor was under the joint control of Messrs R. Nelson and A. Richards, -who carried out their duties in an efficient manner. The guests of hoHour were Mr R. McTaggart (Chairman of the Hospital Board) and Mrs McTaggart. During the supper adjournment Mr Ryall welcomed Dlr and Dlrs DlcTaggait, and after thanking the people for their support, asked Mr McTuggart to open the ball officially. Mr McTaggart thanked all responsible for this fine effort, to raise funds for the Children’s Ward. He especially congratulated the ladies on the splendid manner in which they had catered for the huge crowd present. Mrs McTaggart wore a frock of white georgette, fitting tightly to the knees and then falling into full flares to the hemline. A smart black coatee trimmed with white fur finished the ensemble. The committee were: — Dlrs Dunn, wearing a black satin frock and a cherry velvet cape trimmed with fur. Dlrs Mosley wore a black georgette frock which fell in full flares to ankles and was relieved at the neck with white trimming. Dliss Duggan, a pretty floral green georgette frock cut on simples Jines and finished with a dainty coatee. r Dliss Dlaureen Wafer, black lace frock cut on close fitting lines with espaulettes of lace, and skirt flaring fylly from the knees. A black velvet; cape lined with red satin finished the ensemble. Miss Eileen Ryall, red lace frock falling in soft flares to the hemline, short deeply rucked sleeves and finished with a military cape of flame velvet. Miss Jean Dunn wore a dainty frock of green net, fitting closely to the knees and then flaring with dainty frilled godets of lace round the skirt. Little eqaulettes of frilled net and a white ermine coat finished a dainty ensemble. Dliss Chris. McNaughton, a pretty blue georgette frock, cut on simple lines, with a dainty coatee trimmed with white fur. y

Miss Margaret Howell, rich emerald green satin frock, fitting closing to the knees and then falling into full flares. A dainty cape frilled round the edge gave a finish. Miss Margaret Byall, pink crinkle crepe frock, with gored skirt and rucked sleeves finished with a black velvet cape trimmed with white broadtail. The committee men were: P. Wafer (Chairman), Richards, Dunn, Byrne, Pcrring. Ryall (4), Mosley.
