FOUND HANGED
GREY DRIVER’S ROMANCE WORRIED BY INFATUATION [PER press association.] AUCKLAND, July 4. An inquest was opened, to-day, on James Taylor Robertson, aged 40, single, who was found hanging from a tree in a section next to his- parents’ home. .The father said that his _ son was employed as a railway engine-driver at Greymouth. He came home on June 29, and seemed worried, and said that a woman in Greymouth was infatuated with him, and wanted to marry him. He did not wish to marry, but could not “throw her off,” because of insufficient will-power. He brooded, then became hysterical, and a doctor was called in.
Yesterday afternoon, said witness, his son received a telegram from the woman, and afterwards brightened up. Witness, at the son’s request, left the house to send a reply to the telegram. That was the last time witness saw him alive. ' •. The inquest was adjourned.
Enquiries made at Greymouth, today, elicited the information that Robertson was well known, and had been located in the locomotive department at Greymouth for some years. He left for Auckland last Tuesday, after stating that he had received advice that his mother was not too well, and would like to see him. Robertson then applied for and received annual leave.
