SOLICITOR ACCUSED. CHRISTCHURCH, July 3. Huddart Richard Sampson, a solicitor, was charged this morning with theft, on May 19, of £B5O, the property of Alice Anne Womersley. He was remanded till July 11. The police said the total amount involved was about £l4OO. Accused had given himself up that morning, and there was no objection to bail. Bair* was fixed at £2OO and one surety of £2OO. AUCKLAND MILK. AUCKLAND, July 3. The committee of investigation into the milk trade presented a report to the Mayor to-day. It said it was unanimously of the view that the industry is in urgent need of reorganisation, which could be done only by means of a properly constituted Milk ’Council, which must have some statutory authority. The committee says inter alia: That the present conditions of the trade are chaotic, and there is extreme danger that the quality of the supply will deteriorate, and the quantity be curtailed. Producers are living on capital or credit, although they work 80 or 90 hours weekly. The committee feels the public conscience must be against a continuation of such conditions. The present plans for distribution are more than adequate, but if the Milk Council were set up a considerable saving in handling, delivery and' overhead costs could be made.
