Mrs J. K. Connell, of Runanga, is an inmate of the Grey River Hospital.

Mrs M. Fowler will leave, to-mor-row. on a visit to Christchurch.

Mrs A. O. Harris will.leave to-mor-row, on a visit to Wellington.

Mr G. L. Yates will arrive this afternoon, from Christchurch.

Miss U. Kilpatrick will return this afternoon, from a visit to Christchurch.

Mrs Archie Gardiner, who has been visiting Mr . and Mrs Stewart (Kumara), has returned to South Westland.

A Colombo cablegram stated that Mr C. Brayne, Land. Commissioner for Ceylon, will visit Australia and New Zealand in September, to study marketing problems.

The marriage took place at Greymouth on Saturday, of Isobel Marshall, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lithgow, Christchurch, to George William, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Timlin, Runanga. Mr A. Smi|h J ,..who has been an inmate of the Grey River Hospital since November last, will leave, to-morrow, . for Auckland., Mr Smith, at the time of his admission to the Hospital, was leading A.B. on the s.s. Kartigi.

Mr Bitchener, Minister of Public Works, was accorded a civic reception at Nelson to-day. He visited the primary schools and colleges, and received deputations on local matters this afternoon. He leaves for Wellington to-night.—Press Assn.

The funeral of the late Thomas Reid, of Dunedin, and formerly of Greymouth, took place this morning, at Karoro Cemetery. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn conducted the services at Holy Trinity Church, and at the graveside.

Rev. Varcoe Cocks, Deputy President of the Christian Endeavour Societies of Australia and New Zealand, and Vice-President of the World Movement, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Saturday, and was welcomed at the Town Hall by the deputyMayor.—(Press Assn.

Miss C. G. Lord, Matron of the Grey River Hospital for the past four years, has sent in her resignation. She has not been in good health for some months, and as it could not he estimated when she would be fit for duty again, she considered it was in the best interests of the Hospital that she should resign.

Mr G. F. Bothamley, at present Second Clerk Assistant and Reader of Bills, in the House of Representatives staff, has been appointed First Clerk Assistant, in succession to Mr W. I. Dasent (retired). Mr H. N. Dollimore, present Record Clerk, has been promoted to be Second Clerk Assistant.—Press Assn.

The funeral of the late HenryCoppersmith took place at Karoro Cemetery yesterday afternoon, by special ’ train from Runanga. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn conducted the service at the graveside. Included in the cortege were representatives of U.A.O.D. Brunner and SeddQn Lodges, who also conducted a service at the graveside.

The death is announced from Palmerston North,,, of Mr Thomas Rodgers, aged ninety-three. Born on February 29, 1840, in a small manuka bach on Petone Beach, he afterwards was known as the father of Petone. He received a Crown grant of fifty acres in recognition of being the first white child born in Wellington province. Deceased went ,to the Mana--watu in 1877, and farmed until his retirement. —Press Assn.

The funeral of the late Henry Kirk

took place at Kardro Cemetery yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended. The cortege included representatives of the Greymouth Waterside Workers’ Union, the Buffalo Lodge, and the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Federation (Mr C. Fraser, Vice-President). Members of the Union and the Lodge acted # as pall-bearers. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn and Mr C. Ingrarh (Lodge) conducted services at the graveside.
