JUDGE AS STRAPHANGER
EXPERIMENT ON BUS. Dressed in his robes and wig, and accompanied by his Marshal and two King’s Counsel, Mr Justice Lawrence recently went strap-hanging on the top of a ’bus at Manchester. His lordship’s object was to discover whether there was a likelihood of a passenger being swung off his feet when the ’bus rounded a sharp bend. The ’bus belonged to Blackburn Corporation and was similar to one involved in an accident which had resulted in a claim for damages being heard at Manchester Assizes. On the top of the deck of the ’bus were handles on the back of the seats and from the roof, and Mr Justice Lawrence .-swung on these to test the firmness of a hold for any passenger who was‘ standing. After the test the hearing was resumed in court, of the case. Summing up, his lordship said that the inspection of the ’bus showed that a passenger, by getting hold of the roof, could save himself from being thrown off his feet. Plaintiff was awarded £166/11/-,
