Stedman, who yesterday was unduly distressed at the end of a long match, is to-day in bed’ with laryngitis. He offered to forfeit to. Crawford. The match should be played to-morrow, but Crawford refused, insisting on a postponement till Saturday, to enable Stedman to have time for recovery. L Sutter, to-day, impressively defeated Cramm. He ha s a wide-range of controlled strokes, and is less tempestuous than the other Americans. Prenn defeated Turnbull comfortably after an early threat of serious opposition. Turnbull was no match for the German’s strength and shrewdness. The Irishmen, Cronin and Purcell, barely provided practice for Crawford and McGrath in the doubles.
