EXPORT OF EGGS

DOMINION COMMITTEE FORMED. [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] — WELLINC. TON, June 30A conference o! egg-marketing agents; and poultry producers, convened by the Department of Agriculture was held, yestei day, Dr. Reakes presiding. Dr. Reakes said the conference was called to discuss wa? 3 and means of organising the export of surplus eggs during the coming se tson in order to prevent a collapse of the local market, as the result of the seasonal glut. For varying reasons, principally on account of the low expenses, and providing there was a reasonably profitable market, poultry farming must continue to be a valuable adjunct and an important factor in the success of small holdings. The only way to maintain the profitable market in the flush season was to organise the export of the unconsumable surplus. After reports of what was being done in various parts had been made by delegates, Mr Reakes said a central committee located at Wellington, with authority to act on behalf of four provincial committees was essential, in order that reservation of shipping space and other activities could be carried out expeditiously, and he suggested that a committee should consist of one representative of marketing agents, one of the producers, and one of the Department. This was unanimously adopted. Mr F. Picot and Mr J. N. McLean were appointed to represent the marketing agents and producers respectively, and it was subsequently announced that Mr A. Ironside would represent the Department. It was resolved that the expenses of the Central Committee should-be borne on a pro rata basis, by the four provincial committees.
