The Chairman and Secretary .were appointed a visiting committee for the ! ensuing month. 9 The Canterbury Education Board advised that if the rationing scheme for work amongst teachers was to operate fairly, it would be necessary to make changes in practically every cqse. There were several young teachers in the Greymouth district who had not been given appointment this year, and to be fair, some of the teachers in present employment would have to stand down for a term.
The Blackball School Committee wrote asking whether the Committee favoured the suggestion of a conference of school committees at an early date, to consider the present inadequate assistance the Education De--1 partment was aording committees. The Secretary stated that he had replied, favouring the . conference, and suggesting Greymouth as the venue. The West Coast Basketball Association’s request for the use of the school grounds on Wednesdays and Saturdays, on which the courts were not in use, was granted. Mr James Taylor, the Committee’s representative on the School Committees’ Association, wrote accepting reappointment to the position.
