TROTTING AT ADDINGTON. SATURDAY’S MEETING. [SPECIAL TO “STAB.”] CHRISTCHURCH, April 13. [ Good-sized fields of outstanding quality will be seen in action at Addington on Saturday, when the New Zealand' Metropolitan Trotting Club will open its Easter meeting. Special interest will centre in the race for the Easter Handicap, 4.28 class, in which some of'the best performers are engaged-, while in the Flying Handicap the champion sprinters Harold Logan and Roi L’Or will again meet on even terms. The fields and prospects are: — Preliminary Handicap (3.32 class), ii miles. —Gay Paree, Katute scr., Great Burton 12, Belle Lorimer, Merce Bingen, Nicoya 24, Garner, King’s Voyage .36, New Metford 48, All Peters, Louis Bingen 60. Racing will commence with the Preliminary Handicap, in which Garner is likely to start a warm favourite. A hollow victory in the same class of race at the last meeting entitles her to favouritism; but on this occasion King’s Voyage will prove a harder nut to crack. He is a solid trotter and is improving. The places should be filled by GARNER, KING’S VOYAGE, NICOYA. Fendalton Handicap (2.13 class), 1 mile. —Arachne, Baron Bingen, Editor, Bracken, Great Chenault, Raydus, Some Guy, Tactless, Wrackeen scr., Major Lind, Wilma Dillon 12. The Fendalton Handicap is one of the few saddle races run at Addington, and here horsemanship will play a big part. Editor will be ridden by M. Holmes or M. B. Edwards, and in this respect he will lose nothing. Editor Is a brilliant pacer in saddle, but Great Chenault has yet to prove himself with the weight up. Some Guy is the early favourite, and L. Frost has him in tip-top order. Tactless (A. Holmes) is speedy, but unreliable, and in what looks like providing a great tussle the best may prove to be

EDITOR, SOME GUY, BRACKEN. Easter Handicap (4.28 class), 2 miles.—Arethusa, Colorado, Linkman, Mountain Dell, Olive Nelson, Sir Guy, Sunny Morn scr., Glenrossie, Lindbergh 36, Red Shadow 48. Colorado and Sunny Morn have monopolised attention for the Easter Handicap, but both will have to be on their best behaviour to win. Both have raced well and consistently of late. Sir Guy, who has disappointed a couple of times after some brilliant efforts, will be driven by C. King. A return to his best form will provide him with a rare chance. Olive Nelson does not perform well amongst the pacers, and Linkman and Mountain Dell do not appeal, while little is knowii of’Glenrossie, who is trained in Wellington. Red Shadow may not be quite at his best, and the places should be filled by SIR GUY, COLORADO, SUNNY MORN.

Express Handicap (4.34 class), 2j miles- —Bracken, Gold Tinge, Ngingo-f ngingo, Roddy, Tempest scr., Great! Author, Major Lind, Morning Sun, Raydus, Somerby 12, Harvest Child, Silver de Oro 24. W. J. Tomkinson should provide the favourite in Tempest for the Express Handicap, but he will find in Silver de Oro and Harvest Child strong opposition. Silver de Oro’s best is good enough to win, and the order of favouritism should be SILVER DE ORO, TEMPEST, HARVEST CHILD. Autumn Handicap (4.40 class), 2 miles.—Garner, King’s Voyage, Kolmar scr., Gemlight, New Metford 12, Dolores, Mountain Mist, Stand By 24, Louis Bingen, Quickfire 36, Huon Voyage 96, Peterwah 132. Garner will have her second outing in the Autumn Handicap, but her chances earlier in the day appeal more. King’s Voyage is a good stayer, while Mountain Mist on 24 yards, and Louis Bingen on 36 yards, have shown form. The order at the finish should be KING’S VOYAGE, MOUNTAIN MIST, LOUIS BINGEN. Belfast Handicap (2.46 class), 11 miles. —Eureka Boy, Herod, Neeo, Wilma Dillon scr, Arethusa, Belinda, Nelson’s Victory, Somerby 12, Colonial Boy, Muriel de Oro, Sir Guy, Vesuvius 24. Somerby, who is engaged earlier in the day looks to have a rare chance in the Belfast Handicap, in which he is asked to give away 12 yards. Of those on the limit, Eureka Boy makes most appeal, while farther back in the handicap Arethusa, Muriel de Oro and Sir Guy look the best. The order should be SOMERBY, SIR GUY, ' MURIEL DE ORO. Wilkin Handicap (4.40 class), 2 miles. —Aristotle, Girvan, Probationer, scr., Avernus, Gumdigger, Lily Harold, Rokena, Wrecker 12, Manoeuvre, Master Roy, Wild Guy 24, Blue Mountain 36, Ciro, Indianapolis 48, John Jinks, Nimbus 60.

Blue Mountain is regarded as one of the best horses bred in Southland, and will have many admirers for the Wilkin Handicap, but the actual favourite will probably be Indianapolis, a. very fine pacer. There are others to be considered and a very open race should find the places filled by INDIANAPOLIS, BLUE MOUNTAIN, GIRVAN. Flying Handicap (2.13 class). .I.’, miles. —Arikiboa, Glenrossie, Luu - bergh, Rollo, Satin King scr., Royal Silk 1,2. Wrackler 24, Harold Logan. Roi I’Or 48. The field for Um Flying Handicap is small, but very select, and any one 01. those engaged is equal to improving upon its handicap. Tim back-markers Harold Logan and Roi L’Or will not be neglected on the machine, hut they have been set tight tasks and may

find it impossible to give 48 yards to Satin King and 24 yards to Wrackler. ■A great struggle may find the places filled by WRACKLER, SATIN KING, GLENROSSIE. NOTES. Gold Country fell while working at Addington on Tuesday, and though not seriously hurt, he is stiff- and sore and may not be a starter at the meeting. He was going particularly well in his work. Sunny Ducrow, a fine young- pacer in AV. J. I'omkinson’s stable, showed j winning form at Wellington and Oamaru, but she has turned a bit mulish in her work, which is not a pleasant omen for her racing in the near future. C. King, who will drive Sir Guy and Avernus at the meeting, was, until recently, with. C. S. Donald at Belfast. He is now at Halswell assisting RDunn to train these horses. TROTTING AT RAWER A. The Hawera Trotting Club’s meeting will be held on Saturday, the acceptors being: — Auroa Handicap., 3.45 class, 1» miles. —Demand, Daphne Locanda, Diltest, Florrie Real, Min Bells, Sales Tax, Worthy Chief scr., Golden Harvest, Belinda King 48. Matapu Handicap, 3.50 class, 11 miles. —May Dorset, Cervine, Malayn, Red Eagle, Scrip scr., Derby Thorpe 12, Kohewah 60, Sphinx 60, Hue Coronado 144. Stratford Handicap, 3.0 class, 11 miles.—Cracker, Fisher, Gold Seam, Raider, Te Mahanga scr., Smooger 36. Hawera Cup, 4.46 class, 2 miles — Linella, Teri Kingi, Belle' o’ .Mine, Eleawah, Winshow scr.. David MeElwyn 24, Simcial Sun 48.
