1 NEW MACHINES ORDERED. LONDON. February 20. Big orders for aircraft have just been placed by the United States Government. The Glen L. Martin Company, of Baltimore, has received an order for thirty-eight long-range bomber aircraft, the total value of the order being 2,00P,00P dollars. The Boeing Airplane Company, of Seattle, have received an order for 111 fighters, the .value of the order amounting to 1,750,00it dollars. The, Glen .Martin aircraft comprise a big range of types, including day bombers and flying boats. All are fitted with radial air-cooled engines. In performance they are inferior, as regards speed,, to the latest British types. The Boeing Airplane Company has produced many singh'-scater fighters titled with radial air-cooled, engines. Their performance is comparable, with Brillsh lighters of lhe same class. The standard British Interceptor Fighter is fitted with a water-cooled engine, which offers much less air resistance and gives a. maximum speed of about 215 miles tier hour.
