Mrs Hansen, of Victoria Avenue, Whakatane, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, drew the second prize of £2OO, to-day, in the Number Two Art Union promoted by the New South Wales Community Hospital.
FIRE FATALITY. SYDNEY, April 10.
A fire destroyed five shops at Wyong, a country town in New South Wales.’ A man attached to the local bucket, brigade, who was helping to extinguish the flames, was electrocuted.
REVENUE SURPLUS. CANBERRA, April 10.
The Federal Government’s accounts for nine months disclose a surplus of £2,331.000. Treasury officials express the opinion that for the full twelve months, revenue may exceed the estimate by six million pounds. The Customs receipts alone will be five’ million above the estimate.
MINISTER’S RETURN. SYDNEY, April 10.
Mr Massey Greene has arrived. He declined to discuss the outcome of his mission to New Zealand, and merely commented in general terms on the effects of the depression there, remarkthat the Dominion had apparently failed to realise as soon as the Commonwealth the need for grappling with the situation.
