GIRL’S DEATH
EATEN BY CROCODILE. BRISBANE, March 17. Word came from Calen to-night that late this afternoon a crocodile, caught in Alligator Creek, at Pindi Pindi, when cut open was found to contain the bones, dress buttons, and hair of Mary Adams, 10 years, who was lost on March 9, when going to school. Mary was riding double-bank on a horse with her sister, Thelma, 6 years. Thelma’s body was recovered next day, after an all-night search, and was buried on March 11. Police left Calen late this afternoon for Pindi Pindi, two miles away, to view the remains.What happened to the two little girls cap only be -surmised. At the time there were very high tides each morning at the school hour, and Alligator Creek would necessitate the horse swimming about 40 yards. As the bank, which was 9ft. above the level ot the water, was found to he broken down where the horse had endeavoured to climb it. and as Thelma, whenclutched 1 . Gr ° attacked while on the ja ck of the struggling .horse, and that the crocodile dragged Mary off the horse by her legs. ‘ Crocodiles always drown their victims, and leave them in the mud for a tew days before devouring them a search party spent yesterday scouring the creek, dynamiting holes, and also using poisoned wallabies as baits. Whe n the party went ashore to camp the} heard a splash, and found that a crocodile was beside the boat, attracted by the smell of the dead wallabies.
