BUTTER RESTRICTIONS
BRITAIN’S NEW PROPOSALS
CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, March 10. If is understood there are four points in the British butler restric tion proposals that have been telegraphed to Australia and New Zea land. They seek: — First: The recognition as a principle of the necessity for restriction on exports. Secondly: The restriction to be in a ratio of two to one as to foreigners and the Dominions. Thirdly: That the period of restriction shall be three years. Fourthly: That the restriction should be variable periodically, en aiding the maintenance of the price level in Britain, but that the ratio shall lie constant. It. is pointed out that British butter is not gravely affected, because its relatively small quantifies are realising higher prices than the butter from the Dominions. The foreign butter negotiations have not lapsed, but. they have been adjourned, await itig Australia’s and New Zealand’s advice Io Mr. S. Itriicc and Sir ’l’. Wil ford.
Mr. Cordon Selfridge l told an interviewer that the Dominions wore magnificently playing' their part under the Ottawa Agreements. He thought that the difliculties such as were associated will) butter, would eventually be overcome in favour of the Dominions, lit - and other traders were pushing Australian and Ni-w Zealand brands.
