GRAIN AND PRODUCE

[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]

CHRISTCHURCH, March 10

Grain and produce prices remain unaltered. There was some activity in small parcels. Northern buyers' with the knowledge that there is plenty of everything about, are operating for immediate needs only. Fowl wheat is selling 3/- f.o.b.s.e. Lower grade is reported to have sold at a half-penny less. Spread delivery remains at 3/3 per bushel. The sidings are becoming congested with wheat, and local millers have supplies for some time ahead. Consignments are being steadily shipped north.

Inquiry for potatoes is still nonexistent. The nominal quotation is 50/- i’.o.b.s.i., the lowest figure for March for many years. Oats are very quiet, and are being offered at low prices. Quotations are up to 1/11 f.o.b.s.i. Lyttelton for A Gartons, and to 1/8 for B.’s. The estimate of the oat crop is heavy, and this will have further depressing effect on the market.

Chaff is not enquired for, and quotations at 60/- f.o.b.s.i. are pureij nominal.

Small seeds. —Prices are keeping fairly steady, though the heavy Southern crop of ryegrass is having an easing tendency on local values. Southern ryegrass is offering at 2/6 to 2/7 1’.0.b.5.i. for 27 and 281 b seed. Early samples of Marlborough cowgrass have appeared on the market, but the quality is only moderate. It is quoted at 7d to 8d a lb. f.o.b. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Copy of cablegram received by Dalgety and Company. Limited, from their London Office, dated March 10: — Butter: Market demoralised.
