MEETINGS TO COME

March 11—Timaru. March 11—Wairarapa. March 15 —Manawatu. March 15—Wyndham. March 18—Cheviot. April I—Roxburgh.

TIMARU MEETING.

FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW.

The Timaru Trotting Club will hold its Autumn meeting at Washdyke to-morrow. Fields are- of good size, and interesting contests should result. The acceptances are as follow : —

Kingstown Handicap, 4.11 class (unhoppled trotters); one mile and five furlongs—Bingen Lin, Bonny Nelson, Car Bingen, Esther, Hakatere, Jacob. Nelson’s Lady, Renova, Alf Parrish scr., Mataunga 48, Marvin Guy 84, Amonos 120.

Esther has raced ouly three times, and was second to Guy Carbine at New Brighton. She will be strongly supported in this race to-morrdw. Renova filled fifth place at New Brighton and can be expected to show improvement. Other than Mataunga, the rest do not make any great appeal. ESTHER and RENOVA will carry support.

Trial Handicap, 4.5 class; one mile and five furlongs.—Auspicious, Daphne Queen, Eulogium, Gunmetal, Happy Bird, Pukeuri, Royal Audo, Tatsey Nelson, Margaret Chenault scr., Desert Maiden, Good Companion 36, Enigma, Reporter 48.

Happy Bird and Gunmetal raced at Banks Peninsula, over a mile and a quarter, and Happy Bird should beat Gunmetal over the extra distance. Margaret Chenault won the Wairewa Handicap at Banks Peninsula, and should be able to stay the extra three furlongs here. Good Companion has failed since winning at Greymouth, and has proved expensive. Reporter had every chance at Motukarara but did not reveal stamina. Enigma does not appeal off this mark. HAPPY BIRD and GUNMETAL should find strong support.

Timaru Cup, 4.33 class; two miles— Arachne, Great Chenault, Morning Sun, Ron, Somerby scr., Colonial Boy Harvest Child, Silver de Oro 12, Little Guy, Peterwah 24, John Noble, Wrackler, Sunny Morn 36.

Of the front markers the best look to be Ron and Great Chenault, although the latter failed badly at Hutt Park last Saturday. Silver de Oro despite her displays at Auckland, will have a big following. Harvest Child is the likely one to spring’a surprise. Peterwah has been trotting well, but some of the pacers should beat him. John Noble won his last two starts, and Sunny Morn has won three races in his last five starts. Wrackler will not be passed by, but the result might find JOHN NOBLE, SUNNY MORN, and MARVEST CHILD in the places.

Seadown Handicap, 3.36 class; miles. —Desert Maiden, Grace Huon, Lord Lupin, Vesta Ray scr., College Boy, Tatsy de Oro 12, Dark Girl 24, Gold Paper, Lady Antrim, Royal Parade 36.

They are not an exceptionally smart lot in this event, and the forward running of Gold Paper at New Brighton should bring him support. Others worthy of consideration are College Boy, Vesta Ray, and Dark Girl. Two likely to be preferred are GOLD PAPER and COLLEGE BOY.

Temuka Handicap, 5.0 class unhoppled trotters); two miles —Don Giovanni, Marvin Guy, Nelson’s Lady, Orphan Bingen, Renova, Silk Coat scr., Bosun 12, Amonos, Resound 24, Don Chenault 48, Germanicus 72.

Don Giovanni won a double at Blenheim, but the class he will meet here is much superior. However, he has developed into a solid trotter, and off the front, should go a good race. Renova should also go well in this field. Bosun won easily at his last start, which was at Forbury Park. Amonos and Resound are another likely pair. Don Chenault has been working well, but has some smart ones in front of him. Germanicus is a long way back, yet is a fine trotter. The public might support BOSUN and AMONOS.

Fairlie Handicap, 4.45 class; two miles. —Molly Desborough, Real Huon, Royal Chenault scr., Great Thought 12, Girvan, Matchmaker 24, Ciro 108.

This is a small but smart field, and the chances of GIRVAN and GREAT THOUGHT appeal.

Washdyke Handicap, 2.47 class; 15 miles—Arachne, Bracken, Editor, Eureka Boy, Great Author, Great Chenault, Harvest Child, Morning Sun, Ngingongingo, Pageant D’Or, Ron, Tempest scr., Silver de Oro 12, Somerby, Sunny Morn 24.

A big field in the Washdyke Handicap, will keep bettors on the alert. A trio that will be fancied are TEMPEST, RON, and PAGEANT D’OR.

Wai-iti Handicap, 2.55 class; 11 miles —Banffshire Lad, Dark Girl, King Abdullah, King’s Cup, Lady Antrim, Molly Desborough, Rare Pronto, Real Huon, Royal Chenault scr., Great Thought 12, Girvan, Red Spur 24, Gay Gordon 36.

King’s Cup has been a consistent performer, and he might hold the limit horses safe. Rare Pronto is smart, and his turn is about due. O 1 the others, Red Spur and Great Thought appeal most. Most support mav be accorded KING’S CUP and RARE PRONTO.

WAIRARAPA T.C. MEETING. .

AT HUTT PARK TO-MORROW

The Wairarapa Trotting Club will hold its Autumn meeting on. the Hutt Park racecourse to-morrow. Splendid acceptances have been received, and several Canterbury horses will be racing at the fixture. Form at the Wellington meeting last week will offer a guide, but there are newcomers who might have to be seriously considered. The fields are as follow: — Taratahi Handicap, li miles; 3.51 class; unhoppled.—Autumn Lu, Chinb

ing Wrack, Drusern, Florrie Real, Guy o’ Mine, Olson, Pearl Parrish scr., Real Belle 36, Bronte 84.

They are not a well-known lot in the race for unhoppled trotters the best-known being Chiming Wrack, Olson, and Real Belle. Olson raced fairly prominently at New Brighton, and if he could be steadied to trot, in place of pacing at different stages, as he did at New Brighton, he would be hard to dispose of in this field. Chiming Wrack filled third place at New Brighton after a poor beginning, and looks to be well-placed here. Real Belle is regarded as a trotter likely to reach good class. This trio appeal in the order, CHIMING WRACK, OLSON, and REAL BELLE.

Martinborough Handicap, miles; 3.45 class. —Derby Thorpe, Great Mac, Iron Man, Lola Bingen, Mabel Chimes, ’Max Havoc, Royal Wreck, Te Mahanga scr., Smoke Screen 24, Lilian Bond 36.

Iron Man went a fail’ race to finish third to Lilian Bond last week, and with the latter back 36 yards for her win, Iron Man might be preferred. Te -Mahanga went two useful races at the Wellington meeting, and will have friends for this contest. Smoke Screen was a costly failure last week, yet is too good to be discarded. Three that, will call for support are SMOKE SCREEN, IRON MAN, and TE MAHANGA.

Mangapari Handicap, 2 miles; 4.45 class. —Ailsa Bingen, Dollar King, Wah, Eleawah, Winshow, War Officer scr., David McElwyn,' Checkers, Prince Author, Tini Uria 24, Nelson’s Chum, Native Berry 36, Lady Coronado, Free Logan 60.

The chief race has drawn a field of sixteen. Few of the candidates have shown that they can stay well over two miles. Dollar King. War Officer and Winshow might be the best of the limit lot. Prince Author is a true stayer, and his past form will cause him to be - installed favourite, while Checkers is an improving sort. Special Sun is another that will be in demand. Lady Coronado and Free Logan are good two milers, but the choice is for PRINCE AUTHOR, CHECKERS and WAR OFFICER.

Carterton Handicap, 1J miles; 3.2 class. —Admiral Wreck, Hemlock Hero, Lucky Guy, Wisteria scr., Edna Worthy, Olive Rey 12, St. Felix 24, Mihad 48, Belle o’ Mine 60.

Two horses who have won recently are Edna Worthy (at Auckland) and Olive Rey (at Motukarara). Edna Worthy has been doing her training in excellent manner at. Epsom this week, and must be considered. Olive Rey is smart, and will be a strong fancy. St. Felix has a turn due, and Mihad is well placed here. The public might favour EDNA WORTHY, OLIVE REY and MIHAD.

Featherston Handicap, 1J miles; 3.7 class.- —Guy Star, Great Mac, Iron Man, Lola Bingen, Mabel Chimes, Recess, Silver Berry, Solario , Te Mahanga, Wairongomai scr., Lilian Bond 36.

Recess and Iron Man were separated by a head when they filled places at Hutt Park last Saturday. They will be favoured for this race. Te Mahanga looks to be the next best. Form points to RECESS, IRON MAN, and TE MAHANGA.

Stewards’ Handicap, 1 mile and 5 furlongs; unhoppled; 4.10 class.— Autumn Lu, Chiming Wrack, Drusern, Florrie Real, Guy o’ Mine, Pearl Parrish, Olson scr., Real Belle 36, Bronte 84. ,

Running in the opening event will influence investments on this race, support being likely for CHIMING WRACK, OLSON and REAL BELLE.

Grey town Handicap, miles; 3.40 class: Admiral Wrack, Hemlock Hero, Lilian Bond, Recess, Royal Wrack, Smokescreen, Wisteria scr., Edna Worthy 12, Olive Rey, St. Felix 36.

This is another event where previous running of the candidates will be a guide. Three that should go well are OLIVE REY, LILIAN BOND and SMOKE SCREEN.

Final Handicap, l?j miles; 2.55 class. —Dollar King, Eleawah, Lee Nelson, Lightwood, Murchimes, Ulm, War Officer scr, Ayr Lass Checkers, David McElwyn, Prince Author 12, Special Sun 24, Native Berry, Nelson’s Chum 3G, Free Logan, Lady Coronado 48.

For the final race, the prospects of WAR OFFICER, SPECIAL SUN, and CHECKERS appeal.
