SPORTS AND GAMES

MOTOR-SPUED RECORD [official wireless.] RUGBY, March 8. A fleet of fifteen speed boats met the “Aquitania” with Sir Malcolm Campbell aboard, off Calshot, and formed an escort into Southampton where he received a great welcome. Sir M. Campbell believes that after a few minor adjustments the Blue Bird could improve the speed record over 272 miles an hour, but Daytona Beach would probably be unfit for motor racing for two years. ROWING DUNEDIN, March 10. At a meeting of the Otago Rowing Association, it was mentioned it had been reported that the New Zealand Council had agreed to the Inter-Pro-vincial eight-oar race being rowed over a course of two miles. This was ridiculous, as the rules distinctly stated that the course must be three miles. It was decided to write to the New Zealand Rowing Council requesting the race to be rowed over the course of three miles as stipulated in the rules. ATHLETICS.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 10

A suggestion that the Centres, ot the New Zealand Amateur Athletic and Cycling Association be reorganised, to vest, full control of cycling with actuau representative nominees, was not supported at a conference, this morning, of cycling delegates from various parts of the Dominion.

The subject was introduced in a remit. from Auckland. The mover. Mr. H. L. Tovzers, said that the remit was presented not because there was dissatisfaction with the present system of control, but with the object of assisting the general cause of athletics and cycling. Some delegates thought that the proposed system would be cumbersome.

Mr. P. N. Robinson said that a. 'Wellington remit suggested that the re.presentaiton of cycling and atheltics should be changed slightly. Finally, the Wellington remit wag withdrawn.

The Auckland proposal was defeated, only the mover and seconder favouring it.
