Machinations of political corruption in th© courts of justice are used as a background for the gripping drama in “Night Court" to be screened Friday, Saturday’s matinee and evening. BLACKBALL TO-NIGHT “Stranger in Town,” will be screened at Blackball to-night. RUNANGA TO-NIGHT. “Blondie of the Follies” will be screened to-night. SCHAEF’S HALL—TO-NIGHT. Dancing “fans” are reminded that the weekly. dance will be held in Schaef’s Hall to-night, when the Gaiety Orchestra will supply a wellvaried programme of mixed dances. SATURDAY’S JAZZ. Herb. Moore’s Cabaret will, on Saturday next, again be the rendezvous of dancers from far and near when the usual jazz dance will be held. At last week’s jazz the Monte Carlo was won by Miss Outram and partner. Steel’s Orchestra will supply the music for the usual popular dance programme. SWIMMING CARNIVAL. The following officials have been appointed for the John Burns- Challenge Cup swimming carnival &t the Municipal Baths to-morrow night: Referee, Mr H. Rattray; Swimming Judges, Messrs K. Williams, F. Baillie, E. McDonnell and E. R. Moss; Diving Judges, Messrs E. McDonnell and E. R. Moss; Timekeepers, Messrs J. Crooks, D. Hanrahan, J. Corcoran and D. Stevenson; Starter, Mi’ W. Gieseking; Check Starter, Mr F. Costello; Starters’ Steward, Mr G. Walters; Megaphone Steward, Mr N. W. Jones; Call Stewards, Miss F. Brown and Mrs W. Beale (ladies), and Messrs R. Williams, G. Scott and J. Matthews (men); Costume Steward, Mr F. Thorpy. The Grey team to defend the Cup against Cobden has been chosen as follows: A. Vincent, 11. O’Leary, K. Griffen, V. H. Reid, and W. O’Leary. L. J. Moorhouse, the New Zealand representative at the Olympic Games in 1928, and Australasian backstroke record holder, will be at the carnival and will swim in the handicap events, as well as giving an exhibition of backstroke swimming. Had funds been available Moorehouse would undoubtedly have had the Olympic trip last year. Unfortunately he was unable to defend his N.Z. backstroke title this year owing to ill health, but he still holds the Australasian record. In addition he is a, very fast, free style swimmer, his time for the 100 yards being BOsecs. COBDEN GALA. At the Cobden Gala on Saturday, all national dancing enthusiasts will be given a treat as the programme of dancing is considered first class. There are classes for novice, under 10, under 12, under 14 apd open. Lovers of the strains of the bag pipes should, visit. Cobden on Saturday. HEALTH LECTURES. Dr G. E. Payne Philpots who has recently been appearing in Christchurch, will shortly visit the West Coast to deliver a series of health lectures. Dr Philpots is making a world tour and the Dominion lectures are under the direction of Mr John Hopkins. I
