ROUMANIAN COMMUNISTS

FIGHTING IN CAPITAL.

[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

LONDON, February 17

The situation in Roumania is apparently highly inflammable. It is stated that there is a considerable Communist movement throughout the country, which King Carol is determined to suppress. Fighting at. Bucharest. has resulted in seven deaths, while scores have been wounded. There are to be 750 strikers court-martialled. A most dramatic incident was that of a strike-leader brandishing a blazing torch, and trying to encourage his comrades, who were armed with steel rods, revolvers and other weapons in the face of advancing troops, who tired a volley. The leader fell dead. All of the Roumanian garrisons are now mobilised on a war footing. The Government’s position is hourly becoming more difficult.
