HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. [OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA February 11The Hoikitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry).. Crs. D. J. Evans, E. W. Heenan, Jas. King, D. P. Stuart, A. R. Elcock, Dr. Teich’elmann. The New Zealand Refrigerating Co., Christchurch, wrote that, the following quantities of meat have been delivered into Hokitika: December, IS sheen, 15 lambs; January, 3 lambs. The Secretary of the Hokitika Surf Club wrote notifying the Council of the Formation of the Club with the object of giving protection to swimmers and minimising the risk of drowning; asking lor permission to mark oft’, with flags, safe portions of the beach for bathing on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and on Sundays, anci also asking the Council for financial assistance to help with the purchase of equipment. Mrs A. Wilson, Hampden Street wrote asking under what conditions the frontage of property in Hampdn Street could be piped and filled in.— The Borough co find the labour if Mrs Wilson finds the pipes. P. O’Brien wrote complaining of wandering stock, which had broken a shop window.—lt was stated that the Inspector was on holiday. Messrs Guthrey, Dawson, and Larcombe waited on the Council on behalf of the Hokitika Tennis Club soliciting an area large enough to construct new courts. An area equal to an acre was required. The Botanic Reserve and Whitcombe Square wfere mentioned as suitable places.—The matter . was referred to the Reserves Committee to report. Accounts aggregating the sum of £lOl9/0/2 were presented and passed for payment. The foreman reported that the town water service required a lot of atention during the month. The Abattoirs Manager reported stock slaughtered during the month of January: Nine cows, 17 heifers, 57 bullocks, 256 sheep 21-3 lambs, 6 pigs, 5 calves; condemned, one cow, one bullock. Fees received £62/2/6, for same period last, year £63/15/6.
