MAIN SCHOOL COMMITTEE

MQNTHLY MEETING. Mr R. A. Barrowman presided over the monthly meeting of the Grey Main School Committee hell last evening, there being also present: Messrs H. Herring, R. J. Williams, G. Herring,. and W. Scott (Secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs Tennent, Olliver, Fairmaid and McDonald. Mr H. Hutchison, a representative of the St. John’s Tennis Club, waited on the Committee with regard to the use of the tennis court at the school. —It was decided that the School Club use the court, every day until 5 p.m., and up to 1 p.m., on Saturdays, and school holidays, the St. John’s Club to have the use of the court at all other times including all public holidays. The Committee reported that everything was going alright at both the Main and the Blaketown Schools. The work on the grounds at the Blaketown School had been practi-

cally completed, and there now remained only the work of replacing the fence, removed during the ground improvements. Referring to the concert held in the Blaketown Hall for the Blaketown School, the Chairman said it was .a most successful function, artistically and financially. Great credit, .was due to. Miss.. Hath Williams, who organised the concert. She had expressed her willingness to assist th© Committee again at any time. The concert had been admirably supported by the Blaketown people and the net profit was £B/8/6. A vote of thanks was accorded the Chairman for his enterprise in arranging with Miss Williams to conduct the concert. Accounts totalling £2/14/-. were passed for payment. The Chairman tsaid that he had heard it reported that there was to be a change in the conditions of the examination for the Seddon Medals. He had interviewed the Public Trustee, Mr Scannell, who was one of the trustees of the Seddon Memorial Fund, and he had stated that no

changes would be made until next year’s examination. This year’s examination would be similar to that of past years. The Headmaster’s report, which was as follows, was read and adopted. —Roll numbers: Main School, boys, 299, girls 277, total 576; average attendance, boys 280, girls 260, total 540. Blaketown School: Boys 51, girls 43, total 94; average attendance, boys 47.5, girls 38.9, total 86.4. During the week the School Medical Officer visited the Main School and reported very favourably on the general health of the pupils.
