COUNTERFEITER ARRESTED

NAIL-DIRT AS GLUE. LONDON, September 14. The alleged confession of a man who was said to have made 250 counterfeit florins was read in Bridling-’ ton police-court yesterday,. Accused, George Cyril Hall, 21, of Providence-row, Hull, was committed for trial charged with making pennies and halfpennies to resemble ■ florins and shillings and with utering. Mr J. IE Payne, said that prisoner on April 18 arranged to icnt a two-storey warehouse in Greenlane, Hull. Ou August 15, he gave up occupation of the ground floor, where false coins were alleged to have been made. - They were so well made that four Hull bank managers had been deceived. picking out four real florins as counterfeit and passing the counterfeit ones. Only through the difference in weight had it been possible to pick out the false coins. A detective went to the warehouse and found there implements for making counterfeit coins. Hall was arrested in Bridlington, and later said that he wanted to make a confession. He said .that he made 250 florins and passed nearly all of them.

A detective-sergeant, giving evidence, said that while taking prisoner’s finger-prints he saw some dirt under the finger-nails; which he scraped out. The county analyst examined it and found it contained copper, iron, and silver, in similar form to that on exhibits in the case. • ?
