TYPOGRAPHICAL AWARD. WELLINGTON, October 27

No agreement was reached in the Conciliation Council to-day at the hearing of the dispute between the typographical workers and employers. A deadlock was reached on the wages issue. The proceedings were adjourned until November 15, when the hearing will be resumed. It was agreed to hold over the disputed classification clause, and to discuss the wages clauses, which were the principal points of contention. The employers’ wages proposals provided for a reduction of approximately 10 per cent, from the net rates now being paid. The workers’ counter proposals were on the basis of the existing award. The discussion of the wages clauses occupied the greater part of the day. Although concessions were mentioned and considered, no finality was reached.

The adjournment decided upon is in accordance with the requirements of the amended Act. If no agreement is come to by November 15, the present award will expire one month from the date of the commencement of the Conciliation proceedings.
