WEATHER AFFECTS ENTRIES.

CHRISTCHURCH, October 26. The heavy southerly storm with rain continuing to-day, caused slightly smaller entries at the weekly market at Addington. The features of the market were the easing in lamb prices and a slight advance in mutton prices. Store sheep: Four pens only were entered. _ , Fat lambs: A yarding of »"a of good quality. The top price for the market was 18/4;'the average price per pound was 5d to 5Jd. Fat sheep: An entry of 3900 which was not sufficient for requirements. Values advanced 1/- a. head for all classes. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers to 19/10, prime heavy 15/6 to 17/-, medium Aveight prime 14/- to 15/-, ordinary 12/6 to 13/6, light 10/- to 12/-, extra prime hsavy CW6S to 17/4, prime heavy 13/6 to 15/-, prime medium weight 11/6 to 13/-, ordinary 9/6 to 11/-, light’-7/- to 9/-, extra prime shorn wethers to 16/7, extra prime shorn ewes to 14/6. Fat cattle: An entry of 405 head, including large consignments from the North Island, Otago and Southland. The entry constituted a slight over supply. Values for steers were on a par with late rates, while cows and heifers were inclined to be easier. A line of 49 steers from Palmerston North averaged £lO/3/2. Best beef made to 25/. per 100 pounds, good prime 21/- to heavy 18/6 to 21/-, secondary 15/- to 18/-, inferior to 14/-. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £ll/7/6, prime heavy £8 to £lO, prime medium weight £6 15/6 to £B/10/-, ordinary quality £4 15/- to £6/5/-, light £3/5/- to £4 10/-, extra prime heifers to £9/12/6, prime £6 to £7/15/-, medium £4/10/to £5/15/-, light £2/15/- to £4, extra prime cows to £9/2/6, prime £5 to.£7, medium £3/10/- to £4/10/-, lignt inferior £2/5/- to £3/5/-. Fat pigs: There was a medium entry of baconers. The demand was slightly better. Pork was in oversupply. Values were: Choppers £2 to £3/16/-, baconers 40/6 to 51/6, heavy £3 to £3/5/6. Average price a pound 4id to sd. Porkers 26/6 to 32/6, heavy 34/6 to 38/6, average price per pound 4Jd to sd. WOOL BRANDING. LONDON, October 26. The Wool Fibre Research Association discussed reports from all parts of the world regarding tests of a new branding fluid, perfected by the Wool Research Association. The tests were reported to be absolutely successful. Members of the Fibre Association suggested that the use of,the fluid.be made compulsory. The suggestion was not generally favourably received in Bradford, where the opinion is expressed that it is preferable to educate Dominion wool growers, to whom further consignments are being despatched. Sales: Waihi 17/7, 17/8; Blackwater 17/9, New Zealand Insurance 43/9, City 54 (1940) £9B 10/-. MOUNT DAVID SLUICING COY. The Secretary of the Mount David Sluicing Company, Ltd. (Mr. F. R. Thompson) advises that a return of 27 ounces of gold was obtained from six days’ sluicing. The manager (Mr. A. C. Buckland), in his report of October 11, states: —“I am getting the claim nicely opened up. The work has progressed very satisfactorily, and I am pleased with the way the men have hustled to get things straightened out at the claim. The actual values can only be shown when the area of ‘bottom’ on which we are working (paddock) has its final clean in. Possibly this will be in a fortnight or three weeks.” ARAHURA FAT STOCK SALE. There was'"a representative attendance of butchers at the Arahura sale yesterday afternoon, when 66 head of cattle and 23 sheep were offered to public competition. Prices were much in keeping with those recently recorded at this fixture. The quality was all that could be desired, and any easing in prices was for heavy ox beef. W. Jeffries and Co. sold as follow: — For F. Butler: 14 hoggets at 11/9, 9 dry ewes at 8/6 (all shorn). For a client: 1 cow at £7 2s 6d. For H. H. Busch: 3 bullocks at £8 2s 6d. For J. Condon and Son: 2 bullocks at £9 12s 6d, 1 bullock at £9 7s 6d, 2 bullocks at £9 2s 6d, 3 bullocks at £8 12s 6d, 3 bullocks at £8 7s 6d, 2 bullocks at £8 12s 6d, 3 bullocks at £7 17s 6d, 1 bullock £7 12s 6d, 2 cows at £6 7s 6d, 1 cow at £6 17s 6d, 2 cows at £6 2s 6d, 2 cows at £4 17s 6d, 2 cows at £6 2s 6d, 2 cows at £6 7s 6d, 2 heifers at .£7 17s 6d, 2 heifers at £6 17s 6d, 2 heifers at £6 12s 6d, 1 heifer at £6 17s 6d.
