Having' been one of the two official starters at the Los Angeles Olympic Games,-Mr. T. W. Leslie, of Wellington; wh’o returned by " the Monowai yesterday, will always have the satisfaction of knowing that he fired both the first and the" last shot. Mr. Leslie started the great half mile event in which two'full seconds were clipped off the record. All the women’s events, all Decathlon events/ and' a number of others were’ allotted' to him, and he was appointed' number' one start er in the Empire-United States contest at San Francisco; Commenting on the Games, Mr. Lelsie said: “We’ll never get world beaters until we get tracks put down like the American ones, and until we get coaches. Our runners over here put their legs and “pull?’ Over there they “drive.” Their boys are upright. Their legs go out in front of they “drive.” —Press Assn.
