KUMARA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

[OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] At thd faceting of the KUmara Borough Council, there were present. The Mayor, Crs Reedy, Stewart, Keating, Wise, Murpliy, Inglis. The Secretary of the Westland Hos. pital Board wrote, enclosing a letter from Dr Watt, Director-General of Health, on subsidising a doctor for Kumara, stating that in his opinion, the Hoard Woiild be justified in reducing ‘or even discontinuing the subsidy, having regard to the proximity of Kufnafa to both Grey and Hokitika. Ur MUrpby moved and Ct Wise seconded, that the Town Clerk write to Di- Watt asking him from whom he had made inquiries When in Kuiiiara, regarding the necessity for subsidising the Kumara Medical Service, and a copy of the letter to be forwarded to the Westland Hospital Board. —Carried.

The Minister' of Justice wired, ih reply to a protest by the Mayor against the removal of the Court House, stating the building had been condemned by the Public Works Department, and had been Sold, and regretting he could take no action. The Kumara Fife Brigade wrote askfag to be supplied with 250 feet of hose, —Resolved that the hose be procured ; also'asking the Council to level off a piece of ground at the fedr of the fire station for a practice ground, and requesting that repairs be made to the bell tower.—Resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Chairman of Public Works and the Captain of the Brigade. Mr J. Goad wrote protesting against valuation of his property.—Resolved that the matter stand over. Mr D. Mcihtdsh wrote regarding gravel for the front of his property.— Referred to, Chairman' of iPublie WOi’kS.

Cr Murphy said the trees at the Recreation Ground would require a fence to protect them from being destroyed by cattle, also stating that M - .’ Murtha had strongly objected to any ground used by him, being taken to enlarge the Recreation Ground'-t—Re-solved that Mr McNabb be instructed to find out the amount of timber required to repair the foundation of the pipe line at the rear of the cricket ground. FOR THE BLIND. In the Boropgh Council Chambers last evening, Mr Clutha McKenzie, Director of the jubilee Institute for the Blind, Auckland, gave an address on the work accomplished for blind people by the Institute. The gathering Was presided over by the Mayor (Mr j. W. Grefenslade), and there were also present: J. McLean (chairman of the Greyinouth Harbour Board and Chaffibfer of Commerce), J. S. Robertson, F. B. Lawn, F. H. Denton (Borough Council), and Mrs G. W. Meade (Wohiien’s Institute). There was a small attendance of the public, including two blind people. Apologies were received from Messrs R. J. Wil' liems, F. A. Kitchingham, C. Neville, and A. Carroll. At the conclusion di the address, Mr 'McKenzie, who was accompanied by Mr H. B, Morton (Housemaster of the Institute).- was accorded a vote of thanks, and it was decided that the gentlemen present constitute a committee to arrange for a sale ih Greymouth of goods made by m'embers of the institute. Mr McLeat offered to provide free cartage and storage for the goods When thes- are shut to Greyrtiouth.
