CONCILIATION COUNCIL
BUTCHERS’ AWARD DEADLOCK. [per press association.] WELLINGTON, July 26. After an all-day sitting of the Conciliation Council to-day, no agreement was reached between the parties to the Wellington butchers’ dispute. The position now is that the award will expire one month from the date on which' notifeation of the failure to agree is sent by the Conciliation Commissioner to the Clerk of Awards, Acting Commissioner Newton presided. The employers proposed varying reductions of wages, instances being: — First shopmen from £5/17/6 down to £5/7/6; other workers from £4/16/to £4/7/6; youths up to 16 years, from 30/- to 17/6. The employees, sought increases. In view of an in ability, to reach an agreement on wages, it was considered futile to pro. ceed wit hthe discussion of the other clauses. BOILERMAKERS’ DISPUTE. WELLINGTON, July 26The Wellington United Boilermakers’ Iron and Steel Ship and Bridge Builders’ Union to-night resolutioned to refer its dispute with the employers to the Concilation Council.
