At the Stadium, the wrestling contest between' Harry Mamos and Dean Detton was stopped in the fifth round by the police, after Mamos had kicked Detton on the face and flung him from the ring on top of a couple of the English League footballers, who were witnessing the bout. The crowd disapproved. of the police intervention, and’ hooted for many minutes. i CYCLING. The Waimate-to-Christchurch road race is to be held on Saturday, October 1. The race will again be organised and controlled by the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Athletic, Cycling and Axemen's Union, which body controlled the Timaru-to-Christchurch road race for nearly 20 years. The course of 145 miles is in splendid order, mainly concrete and bitumen surface, and with the exception of a few miles between Waimate and Timaru, are practically flat. Added importance is given to this year’s race, owing to the fact that the Australian Federal Cycling Council has allotted the title of 145 miles Australasian Cycling Championship to the race.
