The fierce westerly gales, which were experienced over a wide area covering Tasmania, Victoria and the coastal highland areas of N.S. Wales, .caused considerable damage in a number of places on the south coast. Dozens of houses and garages were unroofed, and plate 'glass windows were blown in. Terriffic gusts blew down a wall of the Primary Distributing Society’s store, and destroyed the aerial masts at Woollongong broadcasting station, 2WL. The wake of the raging wind was ’strewn with wreckage of every description. Particularly extensive damage was done in the farming districts. Hundreds of fences and miscellaneous articles were scattered. A man was biown from a ladder and injured. In a special warning to shipping, the weather bureau forecasts strong igales and rough seas over the Tasman Sea.
