The death is announced from London, of Sir Frederick Daniel Green, shipowner, at the age- of 63 years.
Mrs L., A. McNeil (Turamaha Street), will return to-day, from a holiday visit to Balclutha.

A Berlin cablegram announced the death of Admiral Von Hipper, commander of the Scarborough raid in 1914, and of the cruiser squadrons at the Doggerbank and Jutland battles.
Formal notice of the resignation of Mr. J. Marchbanks, General Manager and Chief Engineer, of the Wellington Harbour Board, was received, at last evening’s meeting of the Board. —Press Assn.
Miss Ethel Wallace, who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. F. Congreve Tainui Street, left, this morning on return to Dunedin. On Tuesday evening Miss Wallace was entertained at a social evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Coburn, Turamaha Street, and, last evening, at a similar gathering, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. McSherry, Stratford Street.
Dr J. W. Craven, of Birkenhead, Auckland, has been appointed Medical Superintendent of the Auckland Hospital. There were 38 applicants from New Zealand, Australia, and England. The salary is \£l2oo a year and a house. Dr Craven is 43 years of age. He came to New Zealand in'l926. He served at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. He had a fine war record in the R.A.M.C., receiving the Military Cross and the Croix de Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. \ After the war he was Deputy Commissioner of Medical Services under the Ministry of Pensions. Later he entered private practice, and then came to New Zealand. —Press Assn.
