POWER BOARD ROBBED

MANAGER’S CLEVER RUSE. [pee pbess association.] TE AROHA, April 15. Edward S. Thomas of Paeroa, was fined £2O on each of two charges of tampering with the Thames Valley Electric Power Board’s lines, and fraudulently extracting power. Defendant by an ingenious contrivance caused a circuit cutting out the meter. To avoid detection, a special switch operated by pulling a cord at defendant’s desk, which caused the electricity to pass through the meter should the Power Board officials arrive to inspect. Counsel for the Power. Board stated that it was estimated the Board was losing £3OOO yearly by thefts. Defendant is manager of the WaihiPaeroa Transport Company.
