Mr L R. Hobbs, who has resigned from the staff of the “Greymouth Evening Star,” will leave on Thursday next, en route to Sydney.

Mr, D. Lee of the clerical staff of the Christchurch Public Trust Office has received notice of transfer to Greymouth, in succession to Mr. J, M. Eales, who has been transferred.
A London cablegram stated that Sir William Ray (Conservative) had been elected unopposed as .M.P. for Richmond, in succession to'Sir Newton Moore. <
The condition of Mr G. Taylor, who was admitted to the Grey River Hospital on Tuesday afternoon,_as the result of a shooting accident, was to-day reported to be satisfactory.
Miss Borgia McSherry will leave, on Saturday morning, en route to Ireland and France. Miss McSherry was entertained at Harker’s this afternoon by her friends in musical circles in ’ Greymouth, and was presented with a pair of gloves.
Rev. A. O. Harris, of Hamilton East, the new minister of St. Paul’s Meth 6dist Church, Grey mouth, will arrive to-day from • Christchurch., The induction service will take place this evening, and will be conducted by Rev. G. F. Stockwell, Superintendent of the Nelson district, and Rev. C. A. Foston, of Westport. To-morrow they will proceed to Hokitika, for the purpose of inducting the new minister there.
Members of the staff of the Public Trust Office, at Greymouth, met yesterday afternoon, for. the purpose of making a presentation, in view of his. approaching marriage, to Mr. Arnold Garry. The presentation, which consisted of a set of carvers, was made by the District Public Trustee, Mr. D. Scannell, who expressed to Mr. Garry, on behalf of the staff, best wishes for a happy and prosperous married life. Mr. Garry suitably responded. Mr. Garry left this Corning for Palmerston North, where his wedding will take place. He is. also under notice of transfer to Hastings, but *will return to Greymouth before the transfer takes effect.
The death of George William Thompson, aged 91 years, occurred at his residence, Westport, on Tuesday. Deceased, who was a native of Hornchurch, Essex, came to New Zealand with his mother when a boy, in the ship “Bank of England.’’. f His marriage to Miss Martin took place at Nelson in 1868 and they went to Westport to reside, later going to the Landing at Inangahua, and then to Taranaki, carrying on farming at each place. The family later returned to Westport, where they have since resided. ■ Mr Thompson is survived by a widow and family of three sons, George, of Karamea, Alf of Westport, Charles of Nelson, and five daughters, Miss C. i Thompson, of New Plymouth/Mrs T. Curtin, Westport, Nurse Thompson, Christchurch, Mrs J. Woodward, Westport, and Mrs J. Quinlan, of Greymouth.
