WAIUTA NOTES

Mr. Mowatt (Inspector of Machinery), was a visitor to Waiuta during the week.
Miss Nancy Sadler, who has been spending a short holiday in Greymouth, returned home last evening. l Messrs Calder and O’Brien (Bell Hill) were visitors to Waiuta for the week-end.
An enjoyable evening was spent on Wednesday last, when a number of friends called upon Mrs Cole at her residence to wish her many happy returns of the day. Miss Lorraine Broderick, on behalf of the visitors, asked Mrs Cole’s acceptance of a handsome eiderdown quilt and a handworked satin cushion, and hoped Mrs Cole would live to enjoy many more happy birthdays. She also mentioned the grand work done by Mrs Cole on her (Miss Broderick’s) behalf during the recent carnival and thanked Mrs Cole most warmly on her own behalf and on behalf of those who assisted. Miss Broderick proposed the toast “The future health and happiness of Mrs Cole,” this being responded to with musical honours. Mr Russell Tomlinson suitably replied on Mrs Cole’s behalf and thanked those present for their kind wishes and handsome presents. Supper was served by the ladies present and a very enjoyable evening was spent in games and a card tournament.. The League football season opened at Blackwater on Sunday with a junior game Possibles versus Probables, and a senior game between Marist and Waiuta. Both games were evenly contested#. The Rugby season also opened on Sunday at Ikamatua, a fairly even game resulting. . .
