OTAGO CRITICISM [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, April 11. The Otago selectors, Messrs W. Breen and Henry, have forwarded a protest to the Council of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Association against the way their recommendations concerning thje athletic nominations were dealt with. A copy of the letter, which has been handed to the Press, places before the council the following facts: The selectors (consider that Savidan should be the first choice in respect of a representative for overseas. As to Grose and Cameron, these competitors should be reconsidered. With regard to Miss Kench, the selectors are still merit selection, and should not be considered until provision has been made for Savidan, Elliott, Black, Grose and Cameron. As to Evans, he should not be further considered after his failure in the trial.

GROSE’S PROTEST

CHRISTCHURCH, April 12.

Referring to the selection of the Olympic games team, F. J. Grose, New Zealand amateur cycle champion, said to-day, that several times since the last Olympic games, he had been promised by prominent athletic officials, that he would be selected if riding up to form. He contended that he had justified his claims .by winning all three cycling titles in Auckland, at the New Zealand championships this year.

A suggestion that trials for track and road riders be held at the end of this month, Grose described as being futile, as no cyclist could get ready in the short time available.
