TALKIE AEROPLANE
SPEECH AND SONG BROADCAST MILAN, March 26. The so-called “talkie” aeroplane has completed here a series of experiments in the presence of the interested authorities. The machine carries an apparatus fitted with four amplifiers so powerful that, even from a great height, and in spite of the roar of the engines, the human voice and music can be transmitted to people on the ground. The four amplifiers, installed in a Caproni 101 three-engined military machine, near the pilot’s cabin, increase the normal human voice more than 1,600,000 times; Each amplifier is worked by an aerial dynamo, the current of which is. generated by a
small airscrew fixed on the fuselage of the machine. Each loud "Speaker is fitted with nine diaphragms, so that the sound, when the aeroplane is flying at 3,300 ft., can. be heard distinctly by those on the. ground within a radius of about one and a-quarter miles. When it was at a Height of 3,600 ft; the aeroplane broadcast a popular song, which was heard distinctly; Short speeches and pieces of music were also transmitted. The experiments, which lasted about an hour, were wholly successful.
