HOMELAND FOOTBALL

ENGLAND DEFEATS SCOTLAND.

[BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.]

LONDON, April 9. The Association football match between England and Scotland was played at the Wembley Stadium. \ There was a great crowd present. The result of the match was a victory for England by three goals to nil. A crowd of forty thousand Scots descended upon London to reinforce the thousands of their compatriots here, and they turned the scene about the Wembley arena into a tartan carpet, which broke into violent eruption as the Scottish players appeared. Tam o’ shanters, umbrellas and tartan scarves were hurled into the air—regardless of the cost. There was a roar of applause, which was blended with the skirling of bagpipes, the screaming of mouth organs, and the reverberating of rattles, which split and startled the Southern welkin. Thousands of nation-ally-dressed Scottish lassies brightened the scene, while one enthusiast conducted a bagpipe band with a whisky bottle as a baton. One trainload of visitors, coming from Inverness, will have travelled 1136 miles by the time they return home.
