MYSTERY HOUSE
TROOPER IN STRANGE ATTIRE.
LONDON, February 22
How a Dragoon Guards trooper was found in bed in a “mystery” house at Lower Basildon was described at Reading Police court on Saturday. The trooper, Harold . Wright, stationed at Tidwortli, was sentenced to a month’s hard labour for being on enclosed premises with intent'to commit a felony.
It was stated that a policeman found a window of Stone House open, and discovered the trooper, wearing a woman’s petticoat and a mauve shirt, in bed. ' The police had been trying for a year to find out who was the owner of the house.
About 2£- years ago. a man, his wife, and a manservant went to live in the eight-roomed house, which is on the main Oxford road, a mile distant from Lower Basildon. They equipped one room with ovens, and the husband devoted much of his time to training men, whom he met casually in the steet, as cooks. They would stay for some weeks, and then leave, their places being taken by others. A billiards table was installed for their use.
About fifteen months ago the occupants went away, leaving the house •completely furnished.
