Conditions were very favourable for training operations at Riccartbn to-day, and some interesting gallops, in view of forthcoming meetings at Trentham, Waimate and Westport, were recorded on the outside of the course proper and on the plough, both tracks providing fast going. ON THE PLOUGH. Jaloux and Pacify cantered to the five furlong post, and then ran home at a strong pace. Both appear to be in bright condition. Winsome Hind once more showed her track ability by reeling off seven furlongs in 1.28 3-5, the first half in 50. A reproduction of this effort at Trentham would bring her success, Riri and Kakara were allotted a similar task. They ran the first three furlongs in 36 1-5, half in 49 3-5, and the full journey in 1.29. Elude, Minerva! and Red Heckle were associated in a working gallop over a mile, taking 1.47 3-5. bunraven ran six furlongs well in 1.17,Mhe. last thyee in 39secs. Cricket Bat, assisted by Ball Dress, was sent seven furlongs, finishing in front in 1.29 1-5. He will be in strong demand for the Thompson Handicap, in which he will be ridden by A. E. Ellis.

Taragona had half a length advantage from Shatter at the end of seven furlongs, taking i. 30 3-5, the last three in 39 3-5. The former will have the services of I. Tilson in the high weight events at Trentham.

Fast Pasage drew attention to her condition by galloping nine furlongs in 1.56 2-5, the first half in 51secs, and the last half in 53 2-5. Sailor’s Li%e accompanied her for the last seven furlongs. Moorbird, with a feather vzeight up, gave an, encouraging display in easily accounting for Grecian Prince over six furlongs, run in 1.16, the last three in 40secs. While Moorbird does some outstanding work in her gallops on the plough, Grecian Prince has seldom won a trial. Moorbird will probably race on the second day at Trentham, and if so will bo ridden by A. E. Ellis. A decision in regard to Grecian Prince has not yet been made, but he will carry out his Thompson Handicap engagement if a suitable rider be obtainable.

The Quorn headed Desert Song at tho end of four furlongs in 52 3-5, but neither vzas ridden out. Tarquinius and True Shaft strode over six furlongs in 1.18 2-5, and Verden covered five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. Red Royal, joined by Niggerhead at six furlongs, galloped seven furlongs in 1.33 2-5, the first half in 51 2-5.

Monastic showed that he is partial to a journey by galloping seven furlongs in 1.29 2-5, the first half in 49 3-5. Taku Tama joined him near the- six furlong post, and finished a little in front of his mate. Monastic will be ridden at Westport by A. Eastwood and Taku Tama by R. Coveny, and both should again race prominently. ON THE COURSE PROPER. Trestles were placed some forty feet out from the rails, and the portion of the track used was very fast, especially before the breakfast hour. Gay Crest and Charmeuse were companions in a six furlong task. The former broke away in front, but Charmeuse was on terms with him at the half mile, and finished half a length in front in the good time of 1.15 3-5, the last half mile taking 50secs. Gay Crest did his work well, and with a reasonable passage in the Thompson Handicap will be a source of trouble at

the business end, Charmeuse should collect some money at Westport, where she will be ridden by M. Kirwan, and her chance with 7.J.2 ih the Great Easter Handicap again looks favourable. A rider for Her ih this event has not yet been booked. Tout le Mond and Hilary impressed by recording 1.17 for six furlongs, the latter going the better at the finish. fiamo and SblWit were despatched from the mile post, running the first half in 51 3-5 and the full distance in 1.43 1-5. The latter showed promise by keeping with his companion right Up to the finishing post. Ranelagh was responsible foi? another attractive effort in galloping a» mile, Rational 11. joining him after a furlong had been covered. The first half tool; 50 2-5, and the full journey i. 42, the latter finishing in front. C.J.C. ACCEPTANCE LIST. GREAT EASTER HANDICAP, of 500 sovs., Seven furlongs:—
