CRICKET

II DISTRICT COMPETITIONS. r CENTURY BY MORRIS. Weather conditions over the weeka end could not ti’ave been improved on 8 Cor cricket. The state of the wickets favoured batsmen, yet in many in- ~ stances, the bowlers came oft best. In, the three matches played in the Feary Cup competition, Marist, United A, and Star beat their opponents, Star recording a three-pointer- Unexpectedly easy wins were obtained by Marist and United A, and the position of the competition is now interesting. Several good performances were put up by players, but the one outstanding, was that by 0, Morris; of the Marist A eleven. He drew attention to his play during the previous week-end, when he scored 107 on the Saturday, and followed up with 143 the next day, against Kanieri. Yesterday, lie carried his bat for 108, and drew further attention to his claim as an all-rounder, by taking five of the United B wickets- tn the B division, only one match was played, Ktimara beating Camerons to ga.in an outright win. Results of matches decided were as follow:— “A” DIVISION. Star beat Runanga—3pts. Marist beat United B —2pts. United A heat Cobden A—2pts. “B” DIVISION. Kiimara beat Cairierbns—-3pts. Saturday Matches. Old Boys beat United —2pts. Star beat Cobden—2pts. MARIST HAVE EASY WIN. At Karpro yesterday, Marist scored an easy victory oyer United B. Having first use of the wicket, which was in splendid order, United B. were expected to make a good stand, but * with the* exception of Scott, who hit out vigorously at the bowling, the batsmen failed to live up to expectations. Morris bowled well, and being assisted by the wind, he turned the ball all ways, to bring disaster td the batsmen. Cornish also collected a nice average. Marist passed United’s < tptdL of 160, for the loss of four ‘ wickets. Morris again demonstrated J his Worth as a batsman, and in scon- 1 ing 108 not Out played, his brightest 1 cricket to date, his total including .no ’ less than 16 boundaries, itis bowling brought him a double success yester- * day. Matthews, who captained Marist ; in the absence of T. Clarke, also * played bi-ightly for his 36, and Lord ’ is showing decided improvement. 1 Marist won by six wickets on the * first innings. SMALL SCORING AT COBDEN. On a fast wicket at Cobden Domain, yesterday, the bowling of Sandman for Cobden A and Casey for United A, was of such good quality, that the batsmen had to submit to providing a feast for the Howlers. Excepting for a small patch at one end, the turf wicket was in excellent order, Sandman bowled to such good purpose, that he finished with an average of eight wickets for 58 runs. Casey claimed six victims for 32 runs. He was well-nigh unplayable, the ball nipping very quickly off the wicket, and “kicking” high. Casey found the bad patch, and played to it, with the result that Cobden were dismissed for a small total. Restieaux bowled a good length; and secured the other four wickets at a cost of 33 rims. There was little to quicken the interest, in the match, apart from the good bowling mentioned. Cobden’s fielding was poor in comparison with that of Unifbd, Which was keen throughout. Having first use of the wicket, United A made 138, Spender playing nicely for top score of 36, Cobden made only 80, and on going in again United had 40 on the board for three wickets at the drawing of stumps, to record a two-pointer.
