AUCKLAND, March 11. The New Zealand Amateur Athletic Championships commenced in the Domain to-day, in calm, over-warm weather. The track was in fast condition.
Elliott {Auckland) was in great form in the sprints, but his 100yds time cannot be allowed.owing to the very slight following breee. However, in the 22yds, against a breeze, he registered 21 4-ssec, which was a great performance- Results: — 120 Yards Hurdles, first heat: — Holderness (Wellington) 1, Bowie (Auckland) 2. Height 10ft. 6Jins. 100 Yards Handicap, first heat: — Elliott (Auckland) 1, Gordon (Canterbury) 2. Time 9 4-ssecs., equal to the New Zealand record. Second .Heat: —Jenkins (Wellington) 1, Hart (Canterbury) 2. Time lOsecs. Half-mile Cycle, first heat:—Ulmer (Wellington) 1- Time 73 3-ssecs-Second Heat:—Dwight (Auckland) 1. Time 76 2-ssecs. Third Heat: — Grose (Canterbury) and Hatson (West Coast), dead heat, 1. Time 76 2-ssecs.

Driscoll (Wellington) deadheated with the winner, but was disqualified for lifting on the tape. Hop, Step and Jump:—Cameron (Otago) 1, Sullivan* (West Coast) 2, Schneidenan (Auckland) 3. Distance 46ft. 9gins. Three-mile Cycle, first heat: — O’Brien (Canterbury) 1, Ulmer (Wellington) 2, Tolley (West Coast) 3. The second heat, won by Grose (Canterbury, was declared no race, owing to the laps having been incorrectly taken.
