MEETINGS

PLUNKET SOCIETY. At the monthly meeting of the Greymouth branch of the Plunket Society, held yesterday, Mrs F. M. Dennehy presided, and there were also present: Mesdames P. J. McLean, W. A. Bird, Boyd, Mosley, Iles. O’Brien, Ealing, Smith, Aiderton, Wilkinson, Meldrum, and McGlashan. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Robertson,. Harvey, and Greenslade. Mrs P. J*. McLean, who acted as President during the absence abroad of Mrs Dennehy, before vacating the welcomed Mrs Dennehy back to Greymouth, and also thanked th'* committee and the acting-secretary for the loyal support they had afforded her during her term of office. Mrs O’Brien moved that a vote of appreciation of the good work don.e by Mrs McLean, during her term as Acting-President, be passed, stating that the Committee had found it a

pleasure to assist Mrs McLean. Seconded by Mrs Dennehy. The motion was carried unanimously. Karitane Products Ltd., wrote stating that they had a number of feeding bottles on hand, asking if the nurses could assist in selling some of them. Mrs Aiderton moved, and Mrs O’Brien seconded, that the Society reply stating that they could not undertake the sale of the bottles, as it would be unfair to the chemists. The Administrative Secretary wrote stating that the levy per nurse for the Nurses’ Superannuation Fund worked out at £l3/3/1. It was decided that the Greymouth branch’s amounting to £26/6/2 be paid. Pending her re-consideration, the resignation of Mrs A. H. Wilde was held over. Mrs Trott, Cobden, was elected to the committee, on the motion of Mrs Mosley.

The Nurses’ report for February was adopted. It was decided that the guessing competition for two babies’ frocks be decided at the next monthly meeting.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. A new branch of the Women’s Institute was opened at Gladstone yesterday afternoon, by Mesdames Meade and A. V. Oliver, voluntary organisers for, the West Coast. Mrs Patterson was elected President, and Mesdames Nissen and W. Ogilvie Vice-Presidents. Miss .Dunstan was appointed Secretary and Miss Butler Treasurer. The following Committee was also appointed: Mesdames Patterson, Ward, H. Ogilvie, Hubbard, Waugh, Jacobson, Nissen, Fitzgerald; Misses Butler and Dunstan. The following were elected mem-

bers: Mesdames Hibbs, Jacobson, James, H. and W. Ogilvie, Nissen, Hubbard, Muir, Waugh, Baird, Patterson, Fitzgerald, Knight, Hende; Misses Hubbard, Butler, and Dunstan. After the business was concluded, an interesting address was given by Miss Ross, of Wellington, on life in 1 Ceylon from a woman’s standpoint. GREYMOUTH GOLF CLUB. ( At the annual meeting of the Grey- 1 mouth Golf Club held last evening, Mr W. Meldrum presided. , The report, as previously published , in 'the “Star” and the balance-sheet ' were read and adopted. The Chair- j man congratulated the officers of the . Club on the report, and on the balance sheet, which showed a satisfac- j tory credit balance. ( The election of officers resulted as follows: President: Mr W. Meldrum j (re-elected); Club Captain, Mr A. , Smith (re-elected); Secretary, Mr L. , F. Casey (re-elected); Treasurer, Mr j F. W. Shallcrass (re-elected); Com- 3 mittee: Messrs W.~ Coltman, J. Cair- j ney, N. B. McCallum, M. J. Fogarty

and Chatfield; Auditor, Mr P. C. Heaphy (re-elected).. Seven members . resigned, and one new member, Mr. B. Caulton, was elected. The opening day of the 1932 season was fixed for April 16, when a mixed foursome over 13 holes, will be played. It was decided that the club express its appreciation of the excellent work done by Mr J. Cairney, and that the vote of appreciation be placed on record in the minutes. Votes of thanks were also passed to the Ladies’ Club, to Messrs John Burns and- Co., and Mr C. Rose (Christchurch) for trophies, to the Pres§, and to Mr M. J. Fogarty for

the use of his rooms. UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Greymouth Unemployment Committee was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs J. W. Greensiade (Chairman), P. J. Me. Lean, W. Ogilvie, J. Higgins, A. H. McKane, A. J. Fairmaid, and the Secretary, Mr F.G. Davies. With regard to single men, who refuse to go into the camps, when vacancies exist there, the Committee recognised that they have no power to alter the rules of any scheme as laid
