AMALGAMATION DIFFICULTIES. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH, February 16. Th© changes in Hospital control that are suggested by Dr Campbell Begg met with little support at the meeting of the Taranaki Hospital Board at New Plymouth to-day, bui will further be considered. Though the opinion was expressed that centralisation would be economical, tho meeting considered that from Taranaki’s point of view the change would not be practical, and would be one involving great expenditure in the extension of the Now Plymouth Hospital and the loss of the wellequipped Hawera and Stratford Hospitals, while it would increase travelling expenses from the places already having a good service. ■

HAWKE’S BAY OPPOSITION.

WAIPUKURAU, February 17

In opposition to the move by the ■Wellington Board to reduce Hospital districts and the eighteen Base Hospitals likewise, the Chairman of the Waipawa Board, serving Central Hawke’s Bay, circularised the contributory authorities, the Wairoa and Dannevirke Boards, and also the Chambers of Commerce, and members of Parliament concerned, with a view to an organised protest against centralisation. He contended that County Boards can maintain institutions as cheaply as metropolitan, as the Waipukurau and Dannevirke figures show. Centralisation would also be a dis-service to local patients-

ALLOCATION OF GRANT. AUCKLAND, February 16. An announcement that the remaining £38,000 of the advance of £75,000 recently made available for Hospital Boards by the Government would be distributed shortly, was made by Mr Young, Minister of Health, at a| meeting of the Auckland Hospital i Board.
