MR LANG’S RECORD BORROWINGS

SYDNEY, February 16.
The acting leader of the Opposition (Mr Stevens) has made the following statement: —“The Commonwealth Bank Board which consists of capable, disinterested, honest and ncn-political men, has issued to this State, since Mr Lang has been Premier, no less than eighteen million pounds by way of Treasury Bill accommodation. As I have often pointed out, Mr Lang has had by way of bank accommodation, more in fifteen months than any other New South Wales Government has ever had in fifteen years.” Mr Stevens made this statement in reply to Mr Lang’s, at the Labour Conference that the fight was one against the bankers’ policy. N.S.W. INTEREST PAYMENT. SYDNEY, February 15. The Lang Government has decided to pay immediately a quarter million pounds of interest due to local bondhplders. DEBT TO BANKS MELBOURNE, February 16. The Commonwealth’s debt to the Australian trading banks of £2,950,000 is to be transferred from London to Australia.
Trading banks have agreed to cancel their treasury bills for that amount in London, and to accept similar treasury bills in Australia, plus payment of exchange.
