REEFTON NOTES

REEFTON, February 13.

A meeting of the Reefton Prospecting Association was held at the Council Chambers on Thursday evening, when there were present: Messrs T. Williams (chair), S. Austin (treasurer), and some ten members. The Chairman referred to the death bf their late Secretary, Mr. N. Lawn, expressing the deepest sorrow at the loss of so useful a member and a vote of condolence with the widow and son was carried in silence.

On the motion of Mr. Currie, seconded by Mr. McElwee, Mr. A. Wills was appointed secretary. A letter from the secretary of the Murchison Prospecting Association, asked particulars re the formation of a branch of the West Coast Association, and the secretary was instructed to write and supply the particulars. The President explained what had been done at the Conference of Prospecting Associations held in Reef ton on January 8, and, on the m'otion of Mr. Austin, seconded by Mr. J. Barnett, the President’s action was endorsed and the affiliation fe.e of one guinea ordered to be paid. A lettei* from prospectors of Maruia asking for assistance was, on the motion of Mr. McElwee, seconded by Mr. Morris, forwarded to the Unemployment Board with the Association’s recommendation that assistance be granted. At’the meeting of the Reefton Trotting Club, Mr. D. Mines, who is shortly leaving the Reefton district was the recipient of a case of Loewe pipes from his fellow committeemen. The President, Mr. Lockington referred to the regret of losing so active a member of the Committee and wished him success in his future sphere. Captain I. Kearns, Lieut. May Wood and Brown Owl 0. Rollerson, travelled tb Greymouth to attend a meeting of Guides to make arrangements for the Camp of Guides and Brownies to be held at Victoria Park on March 19. There was a good attendance of delegates from other West Coast Coips, and details of arrangements were concluded.
