WHITEBAIT PRICES.
[TO THE EDITOB.] Sir,—On Saturday morning I sent my little boy to purchase a pint of whitebait from the men selling it at the waterfront in Mawhera Quay, arid from what he told me on returnihghome it is evidently a case of “get As much as you can from the public py quoting the highest price first,” witn some of the men selling the i?ait. The first man he asked said that the prifce was 2/- per pint. The lad said he would try another man, which brought forth the assurance, “You will riot get them for 2/- anywhere else.” That man was right, for all the others wete cheajper. 1/6 was the next price fiudtr ed, the third man was 1/3, and flrialiy a good purchase was made at 1/-. What I would like to know is whether the whitebait, like prime beef and store cattle, are culled by the fishermen which may account for firsUgrade being 2/- and the culls 1/-. If not, why the four different prices? Yours etc., ~ _
WORKER.
