MOLLISON CRASHES
PLANE ALMOST WRECKED CAPE FLIGHT ABANDONED [BY CABLE —PBESS ASSN.—COPYBIGHT.] (Received November 16, 9 a.m.) CAIRO, November 15. Mollison was forced to land on a maize field near Minia, Upper Egypt. He is unhurt, but the machine is reported wrecked. Mollison has abandoned his flight. Flares were burned at the aerodrome last night, following a report that Mollison had been seen dver Assuit, an hour's flight south of Cairo. It is unknown whether he lost his way or decided to miss Cairo, and continue to Khartoum. He was later compelled to come down at Minia. A LUCKY ESCAPE. (Received November 16, 11 a.m.) CAIRO, November 15. Mollison’s reserve tank and petrol pump broke, causing a forced landing. The plane apparently turned turtle smashing the, propeller rudder. Mollison was violently thrown out, but was uninjured. He has decided to repair the plane at Cairo, and fly to England.
HINKLER’S PROGRESS. PARA (Brazil), November 15. Bert Hinkler, who recently flew from New York to Jamaica, arrived here on Saturday. BUTLER AT SYDNEY i — SYDNEY, November 15. Butler landed at the new aerodrome, Hargrave Park, twenty miles south west of Sydney, at 5.30. An escort of nine large and small airplanes met him near Lithgow, Butler’s home town, where he had a brief stay, meeting and greeting his parents. He also received an ovation from seven thousand country folk. He received another sterling welcome at Hargrave Park from military and civil aviation officials, and a very large gathering of motorists.
