Mr D. P. Shannahan returned, on Saturday, from a visit to Wellington.
Mrs L. East, who is a patient-in the Grey River Hospital, is making good progress towards recovery. Mrs W. Herring, Blaketown, accompanied by her brother, Mr T. Brown, Dunollie, will leave for Auckland to- * morrow, on an extended holiday. Mr J. F. Clark, a former resident of Reefton, and ex-secretary to the Reefton Jockey Club, is seriously ill in the Bowen Street Hospital, Wellington. , ’ , Guests at Revington’s include: — Mr and Mrs E. J. Johnston, Messrs S. H. Jenkinson, E. Anscombe (Wellington), R. E. Crawford (Dunedin), P. G. Martin (Christchurch), J. A. Gibson (Dobson), W. J. Martin (Nelson). A message from Little Rock, Arkansas, stated that Governox* Pernelt had appointed 'Mrs Hattie Carraway, a Democrat, as Senator to serve until there is a special election on December 12, as successor- to her husband, the late Senator Carraway. The death took'place at the Grey River Hospital yesterday morning, of Mr Joseph Love, aged 86 years, an inmate of the Old People’s Home. The funeral will leave the Hospital tomorrow at 11 a.m., fox- the Karoro Cemetery. Passengers who returned to Greymouth from Christchurch on Saturday included Mr and Mrs J. Forrest, Miss M. Greaney, Mrs A. Kyle, Mr R. Groom, Mr H. Wilson, Mrs M. Bradshaw, Miss M. Mercer, Mrs Grogan, Miss A, Flynn, Mr P. Fitzgerald, Mr M. J. Fogarty, Mr E. McDonnell. The death occurred early this morning at the Grey River Hospital of Mrs Eleanor Atkinson Barlow, at the age of 65 years. The deceased is survived by three brothers, Messrs A. and H. Shaw, Greymouth, and W. Shaw, Auckland. The funeral will take place at the Krfroro’ Cemetery on Wednesday morning, leaving her late red- ' dence Alexander -Street, at 10.30. 1
Captain J. P. Dowell, who has been in command of the steamer Tees for the past nine years, has retired from the sea. Shortly after he came out to New Zealand, he was second mate of the Canopus, and for a number of years was master of the Blackball Company’s steamer Ngatoro. He spent 39 years at sea. Mr O. Anderson, chief officer of the Tees, is taking his place.
