REEFTON, November 14. Miss Barbara O’Malley, of uro.nadun, who has been a resident of Wellington for some time past, has returned home. Mr G. C. Black, M-P. f has notified his local committee that he will be unable to speak at Reefton. on 'luesday next, as he originally intended. Mr J. B. Auld returned from Christchurch and the East Coast on Thursday. last. Mr R- Wilson arrived hereArom Christchurch on Thursday, and is staying a few days in the district. The ball held by the Inangahua Rugby Union last evening to mark the close of the 1931 season, was a great success. The function was held in the Criterion Theatre. Music was provided by Steel’s orchestra of six instruments. Visitors were present from Greymouth, Blackball, Waiuta, and Inangahua Junction. A sit-down supper w;as Extras were played by Mrs S- Ramsden, Miss McKan 4 and Mr J. Williams. After the supper adjournment the trophies won during the season were presented to the various clubs.

At the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. W. Meldrum, S.M., A. Robertson, charged with using obscene language on October 26, in Broadway ( was convicted and fined £l, with costs 10/-. Fourteen days allowed to pay the fine. At a sitting of the Warden’s Court before Mr Meldrum, Warden, the following applications were dealt with: —William ‘Nicholls and Herbert Miller, 1 for a Coal Prospecting License over 107 acres in Blk. 111, Waitaha S.D. Adjourned. Peter Mitchel], Richard Ronchi, and George Basil McInroe, for three Ordinary Prospecting Licenses over 100 acres, 100 acres and 65 acres respectively, all situate near Waiuta. James Hannah and William Matthew McVicar for five Ordinary Prospecting Licenses covering in the aggregate 450 acres, and three Water Race Licenses taking in all 47 heads of water, all situate In the Big Grey District. Two of the Water Race applications were recommended, and all the other applications were granted. William O’Malley for two Ordinary Prospecting Licenses, each over 96 acres near Ikamatua. Both granted. John Forbes, for an Ordinary Prospecting License over 36 tacres near Hukawai. Granted. Bertie Lawrence Patterson, for a Water Race License, three heads, near Hukarere. Granted for one year ? Duncan Angus McVicar for an Extended Alluvial Claim License,- 2J acres, situate in Blk. IV., Mawheraiti S.D. Adjourned. George Bann&n for a Residence Site License over 2 roods at Blackwater. Also for leave to hold two Residence Site Licenses. Granted. John Henry Roberts for an Ordinary Prospecting License over 75 acres at Murray Creek. Granted.

William James Morris, for (1) an ordinary prospecting license over 35 acres near Crushington, and (2) a special site license over five acres in Block XIV., Reefton S.D. Also for leave to amend the description of the area applied for under ordinary prospecting license. Objected to by Richard Wilson- Richard Wilson, applying for (1) an ordinary prospecting license over 45 acres, and (2) a special site license over five acres, both areas overlapping the areas applied for by Morris and objected to by him- Mr Morgan, counsel for Wilson, also applied to join the New Keep-It-Dark Mines Ltd. (in liquidation) with Wilson in,the proceedings; and for extension of time within which the New Keep-It-Dark Mines, Ltd. (in liquidation) as the former holders of the areas in question might remove or otherwise dispose of certain machinery, etc., on the . land and belonging to them. The whole day was occupied with taking evidence and legal argument by counsel. The Warden then granted Morris’s application for an ordinary prospecting license, and intimated that Wilson’s applications for prospecting license and special site license must fail. He granted the New Keep-It-Dark Mines, Ltd. (in liquidation) till December 11 to remove its machinery, and, except for Morris’s application for a prospecting license, adjourned the other matters till then-
