The Liverpool mine will be working on Monday.

While returning from Dobson, along the Omoto Road at about 8 o’clock last evening, a car driven by Mr. Louis Reid, of ' Cob,den, went out of control, due it is thought, to a defect in the steering gear, and capsized, pinning the driver underneath it. Another occupant of the car, Mr. James Irwin, also of Cobden, was uninjured. Reid was extricated from under the ' car, with the assistance of a passing motorit, and removed to the Greymouth Hospital, suffering from head and leg injuries. His condition, to-day, was reported to.be satisfactory.

The ticket which won the third prize, of £250, in the Cancer Art Union,- was one of a bok obtained by Mr. G. Tucker, of Opuhake. All his tickets and butts w-ere destroyed, when his premises were burnt, but a number of those who had purchased tickets from him sent in their numbers for verification. One of the last numbers to be verified was C 25597, but Mr. Tucker is unable to say whether the remaining tickets in the book were sold, or whether they were taken by himself, as he usually takes one or two at the end of each book. Due to a tractor, drawing a rake of empty trucks, on which he was rid-, ing, going out of control on ,a downgrade yesterday morning, Charles Smith, aged 45, married, was admitted, from- Arnold Siding, to the Greymouth Hospital yesterday afternoon, suffering from severe injuries to the legs. The tractor was drawing an empty rake of trucks back to the bush from the Arnold Siding Mill, and when about three-quarters of a mile from, the mill, it became out of control on a.down-grade. Two other men managed to jump clear in safety, but when Smith jumped, he fell in front of the rear wheels of the truck on which he had.been riding. The tractor continued for some distance along the track before it could be stopped, but it did not leave the rails and was undamaged. Smith sustained a fracture of the right leg, and the. left was' seriously injured, it being feared that the foot would require amputation. Smith’s condition was reported to-day to be serious. . v ■
