REEFTON, November 10.
An outbreak o£ fire was discovered at the residence of Mr Dave Scott, Buller Road, about 4 p.m. yesterday. The Fire Brigade were quickly on the scene, and put the blaze out. The damage was confined to the ceiling.
' Mr W.-J. .Barry left for Christchurch on a holiday v,isit yesterday. The Homer gold mine on the south bank of the Snowy River, has reached the position of a gold producer, and will bo crushing at the end of this week. The battery is finished and an. 11 h.p. Diesel engine installed to supply power for the plant. This was given a trial during the past week and ran without a hitch. The company has 400 tons of stone nt the surface and in their two levels Nos. 1 and 2 have 190 feet of banks to slope out. The stone is of good quality. ■ Mr R. Cook left for Christchurch yesterday. :,The monthly meeting of the Inangahua A. and P. Association was held last evening, when there were present:—Messrs D. Panckhurst (chairman), W..8, Auld, Jas. Patterson, C. H- Cleaver, J. B. Discaciati, C. Dobson', J. Noble, H. Campbell, H. Kearns (secretary), P. H. Instone, A. W. S. Pratt, W. J. Duff, A. P. Watson, A. McMcKenzie, Rev. Father Seymour. Apologies were tendered for the absence of Rev. W. Bell and Mr FloycJ. ' The amended schedule was submitted. A discussion took place regarding the judging of butter, and it was decided to write to Mr J. H. pptch, Government grader at Lyttelton, on the matter. ‘’ ■it was carried that the section for cattle be deleted, the support received in past years being insufficient- > The date of the show was fixed for March 11 and 12, 1932.
Mr Jas. Patterson asked whether it was possible for the show ground reserve at Short Hand Track be improved by labour under the unemployed scheme, also whether the Bourke’s Creek Flat could not be cleared under the same system and used for building miners’ huts. Mr J. Patterson moved that the Unemployment Board to asked to have the Show Ground reserve cleaned up under the unemployed scheme- — Seconded by Mr Pratt and carried. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr W. Wogan, late secretary of the local Poultry Association, W3(S carried, members standing in silence. At the conclusion of the committee meeting the members entertained Mr Instone at supper. Mr D. Panckhurst spoke of the service rendered to the Association by Mr Instone during his residence in the district. He presented the guest of the evening with a fountain pen as a parting gift from those present. He hoped that both Mr Instone and his family would meet with all success in their new home. Mr W. B. Auld also spoke highly of Mr Instone as a bank official and a citizen. Mr J. B. Discaciati endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks. Mr Instone, in replying, thanked them all for their appreciation of his work on behalf of the Association and their kindness in voicing their goodwill. A cricket match was played on the Reefton Racecourse on Sunday, between teams representing the married and single members, and resulted in a win for the latter by 105 runs to 73. P. Scott, with 53, was the outstanding batsman, and W. Blom compiled a useful 33. J. Slattery was in good form behind the wickets.
